Sustainability Loan - Commercial fisher

Sustainability Loans provide you with concessional finance up to $1.3 million and are aimed at helping secure the future sustainability of your existing Queensland based commercial wild-catch fishing business.

A Sustainability Loan can provide concessional finance towards projects which can enhance your:

  • Natural resource sustainability by minimising adverse impact of fishing activities on ecosystems
  • Fishing system sustainability by adopting systems and practices to mitigate the effects of climate, drought, biosecurity and market risks
  • Financial sustainability by increasing productivity and long-term viability of your commercial wild-catch fishing business.

The Queensland Government has provided $100 million for the 2020-2021 financial year.

Please read through the Scheme Guidelines to confirm your eligibility and collect the necessary documentation before proceeding with your application.

The Appendix to the Scheme Guidelines provides some examples of eligible activities under the Sustainability Loan Scheme.

Note QRIDA will assess Sustainability Loan applications for this 2020-21 round in the date order they are received complete up to 30 June 2021 or until available scheme funding is fully committed.

Eligibility

If you meet the following requirements, you may be eligible for a Sustainability Loan:

  • operate a commercial wild-catch fishing business for at least 2 years
  • sound prospects for commercial viability
  • demonstrate financial need (Note: This does not require a decline by your commercial lender)
  • provide an adequate business plan
Security
  • security must be provided commensurate with the amount of the loan
