Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries Leanne Donaldson has welcomed the appointment of the chief financial officer of Queensland’s biggest grain exporter, Nidera Australia, Toowoomba-based Belinda Turner as a new director of the Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority.

Commonwealth Minister for Justice Michael Keenan and Queensland Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Jo-Ann Miller today announced that small businesses and non-profit organisations can now access additional disaster assistance for damage sustained by Cyclone Marcia and the associated rainfall and flooding.

Primary producers who have suffered direct damage from Tropical Cyclone Marcia can now access additional disaster assistance in the form of Special Disaster Assistance grants of up to $25,000.

Farmers who have experienced severe drought across Queensland can now apply for a drought recovery loan, giving them access to finance at a lower interest rate for a longer term to assist them in getting back to full production as soon as possible.

Queensland producers are set to benefit following the Federal Minister for Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce’s announcement that the interest rate for Farm Finance Concessional Loans will fall to 4.34 per cent effective 1 February 2015.
